We remember Virginia Tech today
We remember the events that happened last year at Virginia Tech. Our prayers go out to not only that campus, but the other campuses which have experienced tragedy and violence in recent months. I read online of two Catholic schools which received threats just last week.
The Rev. D. Scott Russell is the Episcopal campus minister at Virginia Tech and the associate rector at Christ Church in Blacksburg, Virginia, the scene of tragedy last year at this time. He has commentary in the Episcopal Life online edition at http://www.episcopalchurch.org/80050_96482_ENG_HTM.htm

Project Transformation - Dallas, TX
Dear Campus Ministers, Chaplains, and Staff,
We are seeking your best and brightest students to participate in an intense summer or year-round ministry exploration internship in Dallas, TX. Project Transformation is a Christian, nonprofit organization affiliated with the United Methodist Church that hires college-age young adults to 1) provide programs for inner-city children and youth, 2) explore various opportunities in lay and ordained ministry, and 3) live in Christian community, sharing together in meals, worship, and fellowship. Project Transformation offers these young adults an opportunity to serve others and gain a greater understanding of the needs of low-income communities, to deepen their faith, and to discern where God may be calling them through visits to different churches and Christian institutions.
You play a vital role in helping to identify, recruit, and nurture young adults into Christian ministry and service. As you know, college students are making pivotal decisions about their futures while in school, and they need to know more about the Christian ministries that are available to them. I hope you will take an opportunity to encourage your students to consider an internship with Project Transformation as a way to discern God’s call on their lives.
Attached is a recruitment flier that you can hand out to students and post on campus bulletin boards. Applications are due March 15, 2008.
More information, videos and applications can be found on our website at: www.projecttransformation.org, and feel free to contact me at 214-946-3600 with any questions.
God bless you in your ministry,
Eric Lindh

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Many campus ministries and college groups are open to people of all persuasions. It's probably too late for this year, but the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is probably a good thing for campus ministries to recognize and celebrate.
How welcoming is your campus ministry or college group to people of all faiths?

Lenten Devotional for College Students
This devotion is a guide to help “create space for grace” through the season of Lent. Grace is a shorthand way of speaking of the incredible love of God. John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, understood grace as God’s mercy that comes to us, even though we do not deserve it. It is a free gift.
Like receiving an unexpected present from our grandparents on Christmas morning, we are often surprised by grace. When we are given such a gift, our natural response is to feel guilty since we do not have a gift to give in return. But like the Christmas gift, grace is given out of love and we are invited to receive it with no strings attached.
Lent offers us an opportunity to create space for grace. It is a season of the Church that spans forty days beginning on Ash Wednesday and goes through Easter Sunday. For early Christians, Lent was a time to prepare for baptism which only happened on Easter Sunday morning. It was marked by a time of prayer, self-reflection, and preparation for Easter.
The devotions in Creating Space for Grace are written by students at LaGrange College to help you in your turning toward God’s grace.
As you make your way through this guide over the next forty seven days (we have included Ash Wednesday and Sundays) we trust that you will be led to reflect on ways that you can create space for grace in your lives.
The guides are $2.00 each which includes shipping and handling and may be ordered from Gary Williams at the Episcopal Church Center, 815 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10017 or gwilliams@episcopalchurch.org or call (212) 716-6257. Checks should be made payable to NCC with a memo line notation: ELMC/Higher Educ. Lenten. Guides will be shipped upon receipt of your check. Orders will be accepted until January 23 while supplies last.

Global Justice Volunteers Program
There is still time for young adults between the age of 20 and 30 to apply for short term, volunteer mission service in the 2008 Global Justice Volunteers program of The United Methodist Church. The 2008 areas of service are Asia and Africa.
The Global Justice Volunteers program offers young people the opportunity to live internationally for two months and explore the issues of justice and its advocacy as a component of mission. The internships relate to grassroots and ecumenical partners of the General Board of Global Ministries, the international mission agency of The United Methodist Church. Emphasis is on cultural exchange. Young adults from the US and Europe live and work in community with young people from the host region.
The program is sponsored by the Mission Volunteers Office of Global Ministries in collaboration with the Women's Division of the mission agency.
Each intern is expected to contribute $2,200 to the program. Participants usually finance this cost through fundraising in their community/church. Limited scholarships are available.
Spring Term dates to Asia:
(issue focus: Migrant Farmers and Workers)
March 3rd -April 24th, 2008

Summer Term dates to Africa:

National Study on Spirituality of University Students
Students may be less likely to attend religious services while in college than they were as high school students, but that doesn't mean they're not wrestling with spiritual and ethical issues, a study suggests.
